Artist Statement & Bio
I am Amya Meshelle, an LGBTQ multidisciplinary visual artist, painter, and creative, born and raised in the heart of Brockton, MA. I create using different mediums such as oil paint, acrylic, watercolor, stamp making, graphic design, and mixed media work. Drawing inspiration from life itself, my art is a reflection of my personal experiences and memories. I often paint from my photographs, favorite films, and nostalgic elements that remind me of my childhood.
As a biracial, queer, and disabled artist, I have navigated challenges with mental health and identity, finding in art a powerful outlet for self-expression. My creative process serves as a vessel for processing profound emotions and building bridges to connect with myself and others.
My work explores emotional themes such as coming of age, girlhood, fractured familial relationships, and the complexities of human existence. Through my art, I aim to foster discourse and connection, inviting viewers to engage with shared vulnerability.
At its core, my practice is rooted in the exploration of identity, emotion, and lived experience. I am interested in capturing the nuance of everyday life—its tensions, beauty, contradictions, and transformations. My work serves as a mirror for internal reflection and external dialogue, offering a space for others to see parts of their own stories. I strive to create pieces that resonate on a human level, challenging perceptions while nurturing empathy, presence, and authenticity.
